July 21, 2021 - Record high temperatures in Washington and Oregon made for a challenging weekend, but we all had a super time at Foster Lake Reservoir and Whitcomb Creek Campground.
It was a great weekend to head south for some open water racing. My husband Josh and I both entered the event. I swam the 2 mile distance while Josh opted for the 1 mile race.
The venue was a very open water front park with picnic tables and a big swimming beach. The swimming area was sloped poured concreate which was unusual but made for a great warm up area. I really liked the race layout of a 1/4 mile long cable which we swam around 4 times and then into a finisher shoot. No timing chips, but a really organized well run event. The water temp was 72 on the day of the race and I regretted wearing my Helix on my second mile. Probably the first time I have been too hot in it. I was overall happy with my time and finish, but next time will opt for my tech suit and compete in the larger group for time.
We choose to camp at Whitcomb Creek Campground a really nice area just up the road and also on a reservoir. The campground did not have showers or flush toilets, but the facilities were well maintained, sites were big, and nearby water access made this a great place. We met up with fellow team member Jennifer Carlson and her husband John at the race and then again at camp for some awesome vegan s'mores!
