Well I only "almost" died...

A hard fought day that really was rough but I mostly made it through...

Race day! After a 6 year hiatus! Olympic distance at Deer Creek in Ohio!

Well today was truly humbling. I had a very strong swim, and a great T1 time. However, the water was almost 76° and I choose to stay in my wetsuit. I got hot...quick. It was 80° by the time I made it to T1. I felt "off" mounting the bike. My heart was racing and I felt way hotter than I should have. About 1.5 miles into the ride was a decent uphill and I struggled up it. As I crested my heart was trying to explode out of my chest and my vision began narrowing and I realized I was in a bad spot. I managed to get to the grass and unclip before I went down. My Garmin said I didn't move for about 3 minutes. As I came too I realized other riders were going by asking if I was okay. My unconscious self had his hand up with the OK sign. My conscious self would have disagreed with that sign. So...I got up, and got back on my bike and pushed myself to the finish line almost 30 miles away. It was grueling, and I could barely will myself to shuffle on the run. But I did finish. It was a hard fought day, but I did it. There are several factors, in retrospect, that led to a very bad day. I will work hard next time to reduce those factors so I can actually be competitive.
