Wonderfully Hard Race!

1st in age group. 1765 ft of elevation gain with 3 miles @ 6+%. Negative split 2nd half. I paced myself well, last mile was the fastest and dipping into the 7:32mpm pace. No blisters=wore the right socks :) Total time: 2:23:02

Night before we had a double b-day party with friends so had bacon PBJ burger (1/2 the bun), few fries salad and 4 mic ultras over the whole evening.  Later night but not real late and I slept well.

Breakfast: 2 eggs, red grapes and Celestial Seasonings chi tea. Right before leaving 3 sport legs and sipped orange Ucan on the way to the venue.

I used  AMPHuman, long sleeves, CWX pants and IM Santa Rosa hat, Socony ISOFIT Everrun

Started @ 7am, 48* w/ 10mph SW wind, Cloudy

Beginning of the run I was left behind.  Everyone took off really fast and I looked at my watch 9:10mpm and I knew I couldn't hold that pace on the hard climb later at mile 4.  The whole 1st 6.65 miles is all climbing and I had to slow a bit so that I could last.  Found an easy, doable feel and just settled into the run.  Once I got to the switchbacks I did a 1:1 ratio of run 1 min or 30 secs and then walk the same.  At the top and turn around I found a quicker, faster turnover and let the gravity of the down hill help me recover my heart rate.  Also, at the 1/2 way I started drinking gatorade, my stomach imeadiatly started complaining but because I only had 6 miles to go I drank some at every aid station on the way down.  By mile 9 I had a comfortable running long stride and and my right calf was thinking about cramping up.  I didn't have any Hylands with me so I was just hoping that it wouldn't go into an all out cramp.  By the last 3 miles I was totally in the zone, avg 8:45 between the 3 and was happy to reach the finish line.
