I am a 40 somthing athena class athlete in the PNW. I was new to outdoor triathalon in 2021 (but had done 3 indoor sprints, and podiumed). I might compete in the Athena class, but I also have Multiple Scelerosis. I was diagnosed in 2013, 4 months after earning my Black Belt in Olympic Taekwondo.
I married my college sweetheart, and we have 2 boys (17 and 14). The oldest has goals of completing an Olympic distance Tri next year, and would consider trying to do a 1/2 IM in 2024! My husband and I train together and race together (he goes ahead since he's faster), lol.
In Apirl 2022, I participated in IM 70.3 TX with other MS patients, and I was able to do 1 lap of the 3 for the run. I had to give up because my MS hit at mile 20 and I couldn't deep breathe. I tried though it out, but I wasn't going to make the cutoffs. So I got a DNF. In July I was able to shave almost 25 minutes off my swim at IM 70.3Oregon. I might have lost my goggles and caps, but it was a fun race to be a part of (even saw hubby swimming next to me, for a bit). I was able to do the relay, and I decided to come back in '23 to do the whole enchilada!
You will be repped in the water!
