Triathlon, running, and endurance sports changed my life in so many positive ways. Through the years of training and competition, the lessons I've learned have made me a better husband, father, employee, leader, and coach. Personally, getting to "do triathlon" provides the stress outlet to put me in the right mindset daily. Seeing progress over time in sport shows the power of a growth mindset and desire for excellence.
I aim to help every individual unlock their full athletic and fitness potential. My approach builds long-lasting relationships—learning about each athlete's goals, passions, and desires and focusing on a sustainable training process.
As a husband, father of two, foster parent to additional children, and a full-time business professor, I understand how the realities of life need to mesh with athletic training. I sincerely appreciate the balance necessary to juggle family, work, and training.
Training (and racing) should be fun. My job as a coach is to help you maximize your abilities, pushing you to your athletic limits, yet ensuring the process remains enjoyable. Seeing athletes reach their potential and accomplishing feats they never dreamed possible is an incredible reward and the reason I love to coach.
I’m a five-time Ironman finisher, Kona Qualifier, 70.3 WC Qualifier, and 7x marathon finisher. I also coach cross country at Dordt University in Sioux Center, IA. I spend my day as a Professor in Finance at Dordt and am working on my doctorate.
