I came to triathlon in my early 30s and I have really fallen for the active, outdoor lifestyle that comes with training. When I taught middle school PE, it gave me a great knowledge base and, more importantly, an avenue to connect with and challenge my students to lead an active lifestyle. Having grown up swimming, I spent some years away from the pool as an adult. I’m so glad I returned to it, both as an athlete and a coach with Peluso Open Water here in Richmond. I really enjoy helping my athletes work toward and achieve their goals, and I thrive on that energy in my own training. For a lot of folks, endurance sports can be quite intimidating from the outside, and I enjoy welcoming them into the community of endurance athletes, whether it’s in the pool as a coach or on the bike while leading one of the Field Trip Rides in and around Richmond. Endurance sports offers something for everyone, and I really enjoy opening the door to let people discover that.
