I competed in my first Triathalon in 2017 at the age of 64. This was the Couer D'Alene Ironman. I figured if I could survive the swim I'd consider it a victory (9th place AG). Had a blast. Competed in 2 events in 2018 Santa Cruz 70.3 (6th place AG) and Maryland 140.6. Took an age group podium spot (4th) in Maryland. Hurt my ankle in 2019... chasing my dog down a stairway which was a bit of a setback to training but back on course for 2020. Member of Enve Racing for 2019. An avid cyclist for over thirty years, a college football player (William & Mary), I have five kids and seven grandkids with whom I try and engage in a variety of sports. Talked one of my sons into doing Santa Cruz Half Ironman with me in 2018.... a great time with him. Took a 4th place podium finish at Ironman Maryland 2018 and really grew to enjoy swimming. The wetsuit technology makes it fun! Would also like to squeeze in a swim-run in 2023 if the schedule allows. Missed a couple of "years" of Ironman Events due to Covid. Back on track with a strong finish in the 2022 Penticton Ironman. My youngest son competed with me and took family honors, so 2023 will be a big comeback year competing as a 70-year-old. I need to regain family honors and hope to have a shot at Kona.
