I'm an Exercise Science Professor, father, ex-swimmer, and triathlete. I swam in college with a few guys that were triathletes (Mike Orton was one of them). At the time, I thought they were crazy, but a couple of years after graduation, I decided to get into triathlons to keep my competitive drive in check and stay in shape. I did 7-10 triathlons a year for a few years until my first daughter was born. After a couple of years with a low level of competition, I'm currently in the best shape of my life for long endurance events. However, I have still not been able to do much racing in real life. Most of my racing has been on Zwift, where I am currently ranked number 124 among all racers in the world. I also won the NY state time trial championships in my age group. Those are not extraordinary accomplishments but just help highlight the results of my training and fitness.
