I started swimming at age 7 and swam competitively up through all four years of college. I have coached high school, age group (USAA), and masters swimming. I was away from the sport for about a decade, but got back into it in 2011 and started swimming again myself in 2012. I have been active in masters swimming ever since. I have competed at nationals, I'm regularly in the top ten nationally for my age group, and I hold several state records in Montana. I am also an active open water swimmer. I consider the 10K my specialty, but I also compete regularly in the 5K distance. I was the 3rd place male finisher at the Horsetooth 10K a few years back, and I am the reigning Flathead Lake Monster for the now-defunct Flathead Lake Swim Series (10K, 5K, mile, half-mile).
